Case Study - Travel Unity

Modernizing the Digital Infrastructure of Travel Unity

Travel Unity came to us with a website that no longer reflected the growth of the organization or the breadth of its mission. Their existing site had become difficult to navigate, visually inconsistent, and challenging to maintain as new content—particularly annual summit information—was added over time. They needed a modern, scalable platform that could better communicate their purpose and support engagement from partners, educators, and industry professionals.

About the Organization

Travel Unity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing diversity and inclusion within the travel and tourism industry. Through education, advocacy, and events, they bring together students, professionals, and organizations to foster a more equitable global travel community.

A core part of their work includes hosting annual summits and providing resources that connect underrepresented communities with opportunities in travel-related careers. As their programs expanded, their website needed to better support storytelling, accessibility, and long-term content organization.

The Challenge

The existing website lacked structure and scalability, making it difficult for users to find key information and for administrators to manage growing content.

Key challenges included:

  • Inconsistent branding and visual presentation across pages
  • Confusing navigation and weak content hierarchy
  • Limited structure for showcasing multiple annual summits (2018–2026)
  • Difficult user pathways for partnerships and event engagement
  • Content spread across multiple pages without a unified system
  • Accessibility and mobile responsiveness gaps

The organization needed more than a redesign — they needed a complete digital infrastructure modernization.

Before & After: A Digital Transformation

Before: A Website Stuck in the Past

Before the redesign, the Travel Unity website functioned more as a static repository than a guided experience. Users had to navigate through disconnected pages to find events, resources, or organizational information. The lack of visual consistency and structure made it difficult to communicate the organization’s full impact at a glance.

  • Static page layouts
  • Outdated visual design
  • Difficult content management
  • Limited scalability

After: A Modern Platform Built for Growth

After the redesign, the website was transformed into a cohesive, modern platform with a clear information hierarchy and intuitive navigation. Content is now organized into logical sections that guide users naturally from learning about the organization to engaging with events, summits, and partnership opportunities. The redesigned summit archive provides a structured, scalable system for showcasing events year by year, turning historical content into an active storytelling tool.

Our Approach

We restructured the website using a user-centered, modular design approach focused on scalability and clarity. Information architecture was redesigned to simplify navigation and improve discoverability across all content areas.

Using Elementor, we built a flexible system of reusable components, including hero sections, event modules, and card-based layouts for the summit archive. This allows the Travel Unity team to easily update and expand content without redesigning pages.

We also prioritized accessibility and usability, implementing proper heading structures, improving contrast, ensuring mobile responsiveness, and aligning with 508 accessibility standards. Engagement pathways were strategically designed to encourage partnerships, event participation, and resource exploration.

Results

The redesigned website delivers a significantly improved user experience, with clearer navigation, stronger visual consistency, and a more intuitive content structure. Visitors can now easily explore summits, access resources, and understand how to engage with the organization.
Most importantly, the new platform is scalable—designed to grow alongside Travel Unity’s expanding programs and initiatives. It now serves not only as an informational website but as a strategic tool for engagement, storytelling, and long-term organizational impact.
